The Blog Challenge or Ike’s free case of beer

So in order for a group of Account Executives to learn more on the functioning of Blogs, I challenged them to start their own and maintain it for 60 days. I included the Creative Department in this challenge as well, to better understand how to design a Blog. Whoever maintained and received the most traffic to their site got a free case of beer.

What does this have to do with The Black Flag? Absolutely nothing!

But I did have to create Ike his own ale recipe.

Ike won with his blog undermoose.wordpress.com and you can check out his site at undermoose.com. Ike is a very talented designer and artist, so check out the sites. The rest of the consensus, was it was an extremely time consuming exercise.

It’s a simple recipe, but it turned out great.

Ike’s Ale:

9 lbs. of American Two-Row (Mash)
2 lbs. of American Crystal 40L (Mash)
.5 lbs. of American Special Roast (Mash)

1 oz. (28.3g) of Northern Brewer (9.1%) boiled for 30 minutes.
1 oz. (28.3g) of Northern Brewer (9.1%) boiled for 30 minutes.
1 oz. (28.3g) of Northern Brewer (9.1%) boiled for 15 minutes.

Single Infusion Mash 150

Sparge 175 for 45 minutes

WYEAST 1056

OG: 1:055
FG: 1:008

  1. Thanks for the link and for the beer, TBF. My wife and I opened a couple bottles this weekend and were more than pleasantly surprised by it’s rich flavor and strong body. I do not brew my own but have made attempts to try a high variety of ales so as to give myself a (self-proclaimed) title of “connoisseur”. This APA is now on the top of my list and was the highlight of my weekend. My wife grew up in Germany and is very picky about her beers. After her first sip, she commented, “This is what beer is supposed to taste like”. I have to agree. We sincerely look forward to opening the rest of them and trying other recipes by TBF. Thanks again for the links to UnderMoose and I will be including BlackFlag references and links in my future work.
